  Welcome...

I have represented Knowsley since 1986 - the constituency has gone through a number of changes over the years, but throughout that time I have always fought for local people and to protect vital services.

My priorities are to protect and create jobs through a strong economy, education and training for all, a worldclass NHS, fair immigration policies, safe communities, a fair deal for older people and clear action to tackle climate change.

Please get in touch to let me know your concerns.

Statement - Sir George Howarth MP
23 February 2024

Thank you to those who contacted me about the vote in Parliament on Wednesday 21 February 2024.

Since October 7, 2023, when Hamas carried out an appalling terrorist attack on Israel and took around 240 hostages, there has been a wholly unacceptable loss of Palestinian lives and dreadful humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Additionally, the threat on the part of the Israeli Government to launch a military strike on Rafah is unjustifiable as it could have catastrophic consequences in terms of future loss of Palestinian lives and worsen the already deeply disturbing humanitarian crisis.

For that reason, I support the calls of our close allies, Australia, Canada and New Zealand in their call for a humanitarian ceasefire. I therefore supported Labour’s amendment to the SNP motion which can be found here.

Going forward, I am firmly committed to supporting an immediate humanitarian ceasefire as a first step towards a peace process aimed at establishing an independent sovereign state of Palestine alongside an independent sovereign state of Israel.

Post Office Scandal
11 January 2024

Thanks to those who have contacted me about the Post Office scandal. I very much agree that there has been a serious miscarriage of justice which has had a devastating effect on the lives of those wrongly accused.
On Wednesday 10th January, the Government issued a press release which sets out how they are addressing the scandal. This can be found here.
I did take part in the statement yesterday in the House of Commons and what I said, together with the Minister’s response, can be found here. In addition, I signed Early Day Motion 253 which can be found here. It is, frankly, long overdue, but at last some sort of plan is in place.
Please be assured that I will continue to press the Government to ensure that the commitments given will be honoured.
